Labradoodle Types
What Type of Labradoodle or Australian Labradoodle?
Labradoodles and Australian Labradoodles can vary significantly in appearance, coat type, allergy-friendliness, and temperament—largely depending on their generation and lineage.
Simply breeding a Poodle to a Lab—or even a Labradoodle to a Labradoodle—does not guarantee a quality family companion. Pedigree, health testing, and careful selection over generations are key.
At Rainmaker Ranch, we focus on producing Multigenerational Australian Labradoodles that meet the breed standard for coat, temperament, structure, and health. We breed only from trusted, DNA-tested lines and do not inbreed. We prioritize non-shedding silky fleece coats, excellent structure, and gentle, trainable temperaments.
Labradoodle vs. Australian Labradoodle
● Labradoodle = Labrador Retriever × Poodle or Labradoodle × Poodle / Labradoodle × Labradoodle)
● Australian Labradoodle = Labradoodle × Australian Labradoodle OR multigenerational cross of Poodle, Labrador, and Cocker Spaniel (English or American)
Originally developed in Australia as allergy-friendly service dogs.
Labradoodle Generations and Coat Types
Type | Genetics | Coats & Traits |
---|---|---|
Australian Labradoodle | Multigen cross incl. Cocker Spaniel | Silky fleece or soft wool, consistently non-shedding Calm, allergy-friendly |
Multigen Labradoodle | 2nd Gen or Higher | Fleece to wool, more predictable coat and temperament |
F1B Labradoodle | F1 × Poodle (~75%Poodle) | More consistent fleece or wool coat, ~80%non-shedding |
F1 Labradoodle | 50% Lab / 50% Poodle | Hair to wiry fleece coat, may shed, higher energy, less allergy-friendly |
🐾 We now breed only Australian Labradoodles—carefully selected over generations
for the ideal family companion.
Coat Textures (from Poodle-like to Lab-like)
● Wool Coat – Tight, dense curls (like a Poodle)
● Fleece Coat – Soft, wavy to spiraling curls (preferred)
● Hair Coat – Straight or wiry, sheds (like a Labrador)
We breed for the fleece coat—non-shedding, allergy-friendly, and easier to manage than wool.
Size & Colors
Both Labradoodles and Australian Labradoodles come in:
● Sizes: Standard, Medium, and Miniature
● Colors: Chocolate, Cream, Apricot, Red, Black, Parti, and more
Why Pedigree Matters
An Australian Labradoodle is more than a name—true breed development takes generations. While we respect certain foundational Australian lines, we only continue lines that are:
● DNA tested for breed and health
● Proven in temperament and structure
● Non-shedding with fleece coats
Set Your Criteria
If you're investing in a puppy for 12–15 years of love, health, and companionship, make sure you:
● Understand what generation you’re getting (F1, F1B, Multigen, etc.)
● Ask about coat type and allergy-friendliness
● Choose a breeder who health tests and breeds to a clear standard
