*Please note that all parchment and cafe puppies are born chocolate and change over the first year. Basically these puppies have the "s" gene(s) that causes light chocolate hair to grow in, some with a lot resulting in Parchment (double S gene) some with just a few, resulting in Cafe (single S gene). We identify which ones are for sure turning cafe or parchment based on the fact that as the coat starts to grow, after about 3-5 weeks, we can see the roots of a lighter shade inter-mixed. It is difficult to tell exactly which puppies will be a very light parchment, parchment to light Cafe but we try based on our previous litters and comparing the puppies in the litter. In addition, chocolate puppies may turn a chocolate deep cafe later, this is also difficult to determine at 3-5 weeks if they have not started to change yet. Our Callie is parchment, if you go through the slideshow and pictures on our website you will see her changes over time.
